What are the Explosion Proof lighting fixtures?
Explosion proof lights are high resistance lighting fixtures which can work in harsh condition zones such as refineries, railways, coal mines, factories, manufacturing sites, and other similar areas.
What is explosion proof, and how do I determine what best suits my needs?
The concept of explosion proof doesn’t mean that it can prevent or withstand an external explosion. It simply will contain any explosion originating within the housing and prevent sparks within the housing from igniting vapors, gases, dust or fibers in the air surrounding it.
According to IEC 60079 standards, there are different types of explosion protection (electrical), the most common applied types are:
d Flameproof Equipment
q Quartz encapsulation
e Increased safety
i Intrinsically safety
n Non incendive
m Moulded encapsulation
op Optical radiation
t Protection by enclosure
Whenever you start to look for an explosion proof unit, you will need to define the zone (at what circumstance your ex-proof unit will be used), your ambient atmosphere temperature and temperature classes on equipment etc. ZTZN’ professional technical team will help you identify the best suitable unit depending on the information you provide. We look forward to hearing from you. Please note that cost and delivery can sometimes be affected by the classification of your unit. Please confirm that your selection is correct for both safety and delivery issues.

Make sure that the circuit(s) have been isolated (switched off), only then you can start to work inside the terminal box. Take care that only approved tools for Ex areas are being used.
Can I open and repair approved explosion proof devices?
No! You will not only lose the manufacturer warranty but also will violate the standards and regulations. Equipment may only be opened and repaired by the following organizations:
a) The manufacturer
b) Approved, certified persons or agencies
Please use approved tools in hazardous (Ex) areas
For all work in hazardous areas only approved and/or suitable tools, measuring and testing equipment may be used. Mechanical tools (hammers, screw drivers etc) must not be capable of producing sparks. Measuring equipment must be approved for being used in Ex areas and even on intrinsically safe circuits outside the Ex area. The same applies to mobile phones, pocket calculators, torches.
